Where is the main water shut-off?
In most PA homes, look near where the water line enters — the basement wall on the street side, a crawlspace, or near the water heater.
Which way to turn the valve?
Righty tighty. Turn the handle clockwise until it stops. For lever valves, turn it so the lever is across (perpendicular to) the pipe.
What if I can't find it?
Try the curb stop near the street. You may need a curb key. Or just call us — we can find it fast.
What if the valve won't budge?
Do not force it — you may break the valve. Call a plumber. While you wait, close the valve at the fixture causing the leak.
Should I test my shut-off yearly?
Yes. A valve that sits for years may seize. Turn it off and back on once a year.
